The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, one of the largest global institutions in development and education, congratulates winning rider Annabelle Hadden-Wight, a work rider and secretary for Jack Jones Racing, who took home the 2023 Markel Magnolia Cup at The Qatar Goodwood Festival of horse racing this month.

The Qatar Goodwood Festival’s Markel Magnolia Cup is a women centred event that aims to overcome the boundaries within the sport and to create an inclusive community in support of women, their abilities, and well-being. In its 12th year, the event is supporting EAA Foundation’s Educate A Child programme as its chosen charity cause.

Al Jazi Hasan, International Engagement Manager at EAA Foundation commented: “On behalf of Education Above All Foundation I would like to congratulate Ms Hadden-Wight for her outstanding performance in the 2023 Markel Magnolia Cup. We thank all the inspiring women who took time out from their busy lives to train and compete in the race, and the entire team at Goodwood who made this race a success. Their efforts will directly support girls’ education in Malawi, one of the least developed countries in the world where their assistance is urgently needed.”

In the UK we work closely with EAA Foundation’s Educate A Child (EAC) International. All net proceeds from the event will go directly to EAA Foundation’s EAC programme in Malawi. This programme provides education and support for children most at-risk of dropping out of primary education, through a joint project between EAA Foundation and CAMFED. The project aims to empower and enable thousands of girls to overcome barriers to accessing and remaining in school. Donations for the project in Malawi can be made here.

There are approximately 320,000 out of school children in Malawi and just 35% of children complete primary level education. The partnership between EAA Foundation and Camfed focusses on rural districts and children who are most vulnerable and is working to support 40,050 primary-level school children to enter and remain in school, between 2022 and 2026.

At the centre of the project are mentorship and local leadership - allowing children, especially girls, to benefit from quality primary education, life skills, and well-being sessions, intensive out-of-school support for those facing the most pressure to drop out, and psychosocial support.
